I’m getting more famous by the day
Dave Truesdale is a wee upset at me:
Tempest is angry at everyone and everything that doesn’t fit her narrow worldview. And everyone who disagrees with her on even the tiniest little thing she either labels (nay, screams is) a racist, a sexist, or a homophobe; and yet she labels this forum as full of racists, sexists, and homophobes, and doesn’t see how William can stand it over here. Talk about the utter arrogance and self-righteousness of her non-stop rants! She’d find sexism or racism in a blade of grass, for crying out loud. Rush was right after all, about her sort. I didn’t use to think so, but I’ve seen her type prove Rush right time after time after time. Whew.
Someone needs an emergency bitch-suction operation.
The only good thing I can say is that at least he says things about me in public forums where I’m free to disagree or just laugh at him appropriately. At least he gets as close to saying things to my face as he can without actually being in the same room as me. It’s super rare to find someone brave enough to actually have a face-to-face conversation with me about any issues I talk about often (race, sexism, etc.).
But I find it incredibly funny that he responded to my annoyance with the level of nasty on the boards by being nasty about me.
I saw that comment and all I could think was “…Personal attack on someone who’s not even in the discussion on this forum? Complete with a ‘OMG Rush Wuz Rite’ aside? You stay classy.”
One thing about Truesdale, he certainly doesn’t mind playing the jackass in public. Witness his recent “child porn” screed against Margo Lanagan’s story.

It would be nice for there to be a slew of follow up comments calling him out for that nonsense. Alas, there is not.
I responded to his post, for what it’s worth. At first, all I could think to give him was prayer–such misogyny just stuns me–but I did say something more direct on the next page. One would like to see more responses, but I think many people on the board find themselves speechless in the face of such thinking.
yeah. Or they hear it so much from him that now it’s like “Oh, there goes Dave saying some stupid ass thing again”. It’s hard when he and Murphy get going, because there is no reasoning or arguing with them. No arguing that goes anywhere but crazy town.

I know it might be hard for some people to believe, but there’s a lot of things to be angry about. Oftentimes we are angry BECAUSE THEY KEEP HAPPENING. Sometimes we’re angry because we point stuff out and people try to explain how that’s not the case at all. Yeah, I’d be pissed as hell if I had to swim through shit every day.
Privilege is getting to be angry and not having your anger called into question because you are [insert group here].
PS. I was going to say that I didn’t know Dave Truesdale from Adam at all, but when I clicked on the link to the forum where he made that remark, I said to myself, “Self, isn’t that the guy who dredged up the Angry Minorities remark during the recent debacle over Eclipse 2?” I really still don’t know him, but his track record with words he leaves behind is rather telling.
Yes, that is actually funny in the “dollar for dollar, irony is your second-best entertainment value” kind of way.
And arguably in the first-best entertainment value as well (kooks, because they’re free).

Oy. I have a hard time keeping some of these guys apart, but doesn’t Truesdale edit something and hasn’t he written nasty privileged/rightwing jerkish editorials in his professional capacity before? Or am I mixing him with a different fandom prozine editor whose name starts with a “D”?

Breaking out of lurkerdom to let you know how completely appalled I am at their behavior (though I haven’t been back to that thread for a couple of days; the sheer level of stupid was too much to take). Like you pointed out above, I did find it very amusing, in an awful kind of way, that they proceeded to totally prove your point about the nasty tone of discourse on that message board, though. Anyway, I’m glad you’re not letting them get you down.
