My Favorite Fiction From June 2012

June was a really good month for fiction! Must be all that summer reading we’re all expected to do. I didn’t get very far in my novel reading this month, but I did start on The Shadowed Sun by N. K. Jemisin, Redshirts by John Scalzi, and continue working through Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed. I also picked up Ancient, Ancient  by Kiini Ibura Salaam.

It’s Cloudy Outside

It's Cloudy Outside

I’m staying in today!  Snuggling with some good books.  I’m reading a Tiptree book now, but I wanna get back to Fast Ships, Black Sails, the pirate antho edited by Ann and Jeff Vandermeer.  (That book is not out yet! you say.  Yes, I know, I say, but I have it already because I am super awesome!)  I really should not stop reading my Tiptree books (I’m on a roll), but this counts, cuz some of the stories might be worthy of nomination…

But really I am just enjoying the book too much to stay away for long.  I’m about a third of the way through now, and I’ll give a full review as soon as I can.

Sybil’s Garage, oh believe it!

Sybil's GarageLast year, after joining the Altered Fluid writing group, fellow Fluidian Matt Kressel asked me if I’d like to slush read for Sybil’s Garage. I said sure, as I’m an old hand at slush. Many, many, many, many submissions later, we were done, and I’d found at least one story that ended up in the final issue. I wasn’t the only one working in the slush mines (thank Hera!), and ultimate praise goes to head honcho Matt for selecting the amazing stories now available in Sybil’s Garage No. 5. It’s a very pretty magazine filled with a lot of amazing fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. I’m proud to have played a small part. Buy your copy now!
